Cleaner Combustion in Diesel-Fueled Power Systems

When diesel is the only available fuel, combustion method still matters. A continuous-flame packaged boiler can offer lower visible smoke and soot than an uncontrolled diesel reciprocating engine, but modern engine aftertreatment can change the result.

Compare on Equal Terms

Evaluate smoke opacity, particulate matter, NOx, CO and hydrocarbons at the same fuel basis—and also per net megawatt-hour of electricity delivered.

Consider Total Fuel Use

Steam-cycle electrical efficiency may be lower than that of reciprocating generation. Fuel consumption and emissions controls must be considered before claiming lower overall emissions.

Why Rotating Inertia Matters

Steam turbine rotor and shaft close-up

When electrical demand increases suddenly, a synchronous generator's rotor can decelerate before the prime mover responds. Impulse Inertia is intended to supply supplemental mechanical torque during that interval.
